The Value
Not all Basketballs were created equal, and if you play frequently, then you know what I mean. The biggest differences are between indoor and outdoor basketballs. Obviously, outdoor balls will be tougher and made to last, while indoor thrive for performance in said conditions. Next difference is each individual basketball in its respective category. Some are harder, some are softer, some are bouncier, and some aren’t as much.
No matter what type of basketball it is, each one serves different purposes and works better for a certain player or environment. Here we talk about what’s best for your pockets, as well as your hands 5. Spalding Official NBA Game Ball
Sitting at $149.99, it’s obviously not the cheapest, but you can’t just leave it out. The official basketball of the NBA makes a name for itself. Being used professionally, the ball is created for maximum performance and efficiency. The rubber is high quality, and grips very well. The ball itself feels a little harder than others, but lasts a while.
Now, this list is not "Which basketball is the best?", this list is to tell you what is the best bang for your buck, which basketball has the best balance of price, feel, and versatility. So, The Official NBA Game Ball is a strong 5th 4. Wilson NCAA Official Game Basketball
Again, a game ball. Except this game ball is the official game basketball for the NCAA. Although the price doesn't reach $140, it's still at a cool $69.95. The price doesn't go too far past most basketballs and again is used in an official setting. Personally, it is a great ball. However, I know of better options that'll make your wallet happier.
Amazing when preserved, but very similar to the Wilson Evolution. 3. Nike Elite Championship Basketball
One of my favorite basketballs to use. I started using it in middle school and was not a big fan at the time. What won me over was the prestigious feel of the leather. The basketball has a harder leather, but very nice quality. The bounce may seem higher than most, but felt better as my ball handling improved. My favorite part would have to be the great amount of grip even with channels that are not so deep. Not many basketballs have the same grip that this ball has. Great buy, based on your preference, since it seems to be around the same price as the top two at around $39.99
2. The Rock Official Basketball
Since I started playing indoor basketball, this has been one of my favorite basketballs. The ball bounces pretty similarly to the Nike Championship ball, but the leather is softer with similar amount of grip. The channels are somewhat deep. I may be bias with this ball, but it is a great one nonetheless. Again, this falls into preference.
Around $51.99 1. Wilson Evolution Basketball
My absolute favorite basketball and has the best value. The ball sits at $64.95, but surpasses others. The ball exemplifies the balance of what a basketball should have. The ball is not crazy bouncy, but it still bounces well. The channels are not too deep but are not shallow either. I have used this more than any other basketball and I still use to when I go to the gym. One of my favorite non-compliment compliments are when the team is deciding what ball to use and they feel yours and say, " Alright, let's use this ball." Almost guaranteed with this ball. Usually, this ball will be found through most gyms.
Wilson also has a customized version of the ball that's pretty cool. You'll never be confused on who's ball belongs to who. What's the best one for you?
Basketball is a beautiful game and is played by so many. When choosing the best basketball, a few things should be considered. Of course the feel should be one of the first considerations, then comes what you want it for. Buying the basketball that your middle school, high school, or friends use can get you used to it. beforehand. Then again this can negatively affect you when using others. The best option is to get one that you feel good with and just have fun.
I just ask that you please do not use it for outdoor basketball.
